The currency system in Cuba is the CUC, Cubano Peso Convertible, the exchange rate is about 1 EUR for 1.20 CUC.

The CUC is usually not available in banks outside of Cuba. It is best to exchange your money in Cuba directly at the airport next to the exit.

Take as much money in Euro as you personally see fit in terms of security and necessity.

Take notes in small denominations. Large summed notes, travellers cheques and credit cards mostly need a trip to a bank and that usually means in Cuba hours of waiting in cues.

Do not exchange your cash beforehand into US Dollars as was usual in the past. The current exchange rate for CUC is 10 percent. The same applies to withdrawing money with a credit card, because this transaction is also made in Dollars.
